Cyclist and deer collide in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

A bicyclist was flown to a nearby hospital Friday evening after crashing into a deer.

The 30-year-old man was riding near 11000 East and Big Cottonwood Canyon Road when he crashed into the animal at about 8:20 p.m., according to Salt Lake County sheriff’s dispatchers.

The man was wearing a helmet, which shattered during the collision. He was listed in critical condition.

Freak accident, I’m sure, but another reminder to keep our eyes open and to pay attention. I hope the guy is OK and back riding soon.

  1. jesus christ…

i nearly hit deer while mountain biking

i went to the forest a bit late in the afternoon, and just my luck, got a puncture halfway around the circuit

it started to get dark while the glue was drying, so once i had’ fixed it, i started to rush. the last part of the circuit is a fairly long, steep downhill section…

i was going down it at about 25mph, when a herd of deer ran out in front of me. how i managed to dodge them i really don’t know… but my heart was in the back of my throat for the next few minutes..
