A few LOTOJA alternative/training races
The 206 miles of LOTOJA is too much for some. The $150 of LOTOJA is too much for some.
If you are one of those, or not, here’s another training and/or racing option. The Felt Tour de Park City is about one month before LOTOJA, covers 170 miles, is a USCF sanctioned race and has fully supported aid stations every 25 miles. Plus it returns you to the start/finish line to remove one major headache. Race date is August 2.
With fully supported aid stations every 25 miles — the Tour de Park City also has a non-competitive tour version — there will be plenty of food, drink and porta-potty availability. The $10,000 prize purse ain’t a bad incentive, either, considering even Cat 5 dudes like me will have a chance to win some cash.
Of course, there is a UCA race the same day for the point chasers. It’s ‘only’ 92 miles of the Mt. Ogden Road Race.
If that’s not enough for you, toss on the 165 miles and 12,000 feet climbing of RANATAD on August 4, 111 miles of ULCER on August 9, and the 200 mile Desperado Dual on August 23 and your legs — if they’re even capable of turning another pedal – should be ready for LOTOJA.
Then you can tackle the Hoodoo 500.
Dang, that’s a lot of miles.

Holy crap! $1,500 to the winner?
Will that one major climb be to the finish?

From what I remember of last year’s ride, it’s basically a ride from PC to Kamas and out Chalk Creek.
the start line is at the Canyons/Kimball Junction area. So I think the climb must be somewhere else — Wolf Creek Summit near Kamas if I remember correctly..
