Showdown at the Shani Corral

leave a comment »

US Speedskating is telling what may be its best long track skater he can skate at the upcoming World Cup races in SLC, but his coaches aren’t welcome on the ice or in the locker rooms.

Shani Davis has butted heads with USS for years. This time, though, it looks like the power struggle is getting to an absurd level. I’m not taking sides on this battle because I think both sides are right in various regards. But to play tough guy over this is so silly. Davis, after being told his coaches wouldn’t be able to do on-ice coaching this weekend, told the ISU World Cup “Thanks, but no thanks” and will sit this one out.

Stop playing games, kids. No one is winning in this battle. Just skate.
